An Expansive Miscrocosm

It’s tempting to start liking any of these people; and it’s just as tempting to hate them. “The Expanse” doesn’t care. It’s too busy telling you a story.

The most important character in the show is the fucked-up environment: an impoverished, exploited peopleĀ on the brink of rebellion, two warring intergallactic factions… And we haven’t even met any aliens yet! Well, at least none that talk and walk. This is a mystery about a missing girl that reveals exactly how this world works, exactly who our characters are, and gets us just invested enough in what happens to them next that it hurts when we’re cut off until at the season finale. Watch “The Expanse” if you’re in the headspace for some darkness; don’t, if you’re looking for sunshine and giggles.
